Healthy Entrepreneurs (HE) is a social business founded in The Netherlands, with operations in 7 countries in Africa (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Nigeria and DRC). HE is specialized in the implementation of last mile distribution models of reliable products and information that enhance health and the quality of life for people living in hard to reach and remote areas. HE aims to provide access to basic health commodities and services by developing and implementing sound commercial business models. Uganda is our biggest operation. HE is implementing its franchise model via more than 13,000 Community Health Entrepreneurs (CHEs) in over 60 districts of Uganda today, providing access to basic health care to more than 12 million people in rural areas. For the Kampala office, we need an experienced HR senior who will be key in professionalizing our HR function and growing the people of Healthy Entrepreneurs. Our Ugandan operation currently has 150 people on the payroll.


Our team in Kenya (approx. 55 fte) is spread over three different locations (Naguru, Homa Bay and Makueni). Our 3,300 CHEs are in 7 counties and we are growing. For our team in Kenya we are looking for an HR officer to support the management team, reporting to the Global HR manager.

Healthy Entrepreneurs (HE) strategic overall personnel processes (not in prioritized order):

  • Strengthening the HR system.

  • Improve and execute HR contract management & remuneration

  • Further develop and support Performance Management

  • Employee Relations - Provide an excellent internal customer experience by creating clear channels for employees to raise questions or concerns

  • Support the establishment of a positive working culture

  • Review, update, classify and reclassify job descriptions for existing and new positions

  • Execute and improve HR Admin, supporting implementation of Odoo for HR

  • Execute and optimize the recruitment strategy, including assessments

  • Compliance to employment and labour laws

  • Develop and review of HR policies/manuals (monitor and follow-up) and processes

  • Ability to facilitate internal trainings, mainly on soft skills and growth

  • Further build the learning function (HE Academy, implement elements of continuous learning)

  • Support development and coaching of the HE team managers

  • Capacity building on gender inclusive HR strategies and safeguarding/SHE (safety, health, environment)

  • Handling Disciplinary and HR issues

  • HR Law & Tax Compliance

  • Bring in Best HR practices, tools, new technologies in HR, talent management


The Senior HR Officer and the HR officer will work closely together with the Global HR Manager and the HR officer in Uganda.


Work experience

  • For the senior role: a minimum of 6 years working experience in an HR role, out of which at least 2 in a senior role. For the officer role: a minimum of 2 years in an HR role

  • Master's degree in HR for the senior role and a bachelor for the officer role, management or related topic

  • Professional experience in a likewise dynamic organization or social enterprise will be an advantage


Skills & requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and strong work ethic.

  • Extensive respectively good knowledge of HR structures, systems, procedures and policies and tools

  • Experience in recruitment, remuneration and contract management

  • Thorough knowledge of employment and labour related laws and regulations

  • You are a good planner and have well developed analytical skills

  • You have good facilitation and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint,Teams and Outlook, Odoo would be an advantage

  • Flexible, upbeat, determined and able to work in a dynamic and agile environment

  • Language: English is a must and preferably Luganda
