The General Manager (GM), Makerere University Holdings Ltd (Mak Holdings Ltd) will be responsible for developing new business, managing existing business units, promoting relationships with other stakeholders on and off campus and coordinating Mak Holdings activities with the University Management. He/She reports to the Chairperson Board of Directors.


Requirements

  • Minimum of Master’s degree from a recognized University.

  • Minimum experience of at least 10 years at senior level in busy company or organization.
  • Proven and demonstrable experience in business development and organizational transformation
  • Ability to produce timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop Strategies, plans, procedures, and tools appropriate for the management, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of the existing business units
  • Identify and assess potential new businesses and opportunities for growth for Mak Holdings Ltd

Operations and Financial Management

  • Provide oversight of daily operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness and manage resources including staff, equipment and budget
  • Prepare and manage budgets, ensuring profitability and cost control
  • Prepare regular progress financial and operational reports of the business units
  • Develop appropriate policies for the control and proper use of the Mak Holdings Ltd funds, ensuring that these funds are well utilized and safe-guarded.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers and partners

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with industry and statutory regulations and company policies
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks

Leadership and Team Management

  • Supervise and motivate staff in Mak Holdings Ltd and ensure that the Mak Holdings Ltd strategic objectives are achieved.
  • Recruit, Train and Develop Staff
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment
  • Set performance goals and metrics
  • Monitor performance against the metrics, and report to the board on progress.

Stakeholder Management/Board Involvement

  • Attend all Board meetings of the Company as an ex-officio member and present Board papers
  • Ensure that the minutes of the Board Meeting are prepared and presented at least 7 working days after the meeting
  • Perform any other official duty delegated by the Chairperson Mak Holdings Ltd and the Board of Mak Holdings Ltd, as a whole.
