  • Direct relevant experience working with state-level government health authorities as well as private health sector providers.
  • Experience with projects or initiatives designed to improve the quality of malaria case management and reporting.
  • Experience working on USAID projects.
  • Familiarity with the health sector, especially the private health sector, in Nasarawa State, and ability to speak and understand Hausa and/or other local languages.
  • Experience working with the corporate sector on efforts to improve health outcomes is preferred.
  • Ability to write high-level reports under a tight deadline.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills in English.
  • Ability to actively listen (i.e. seeks to understand, asks good questions, paraphrases, and is in tune with speaker’s emotional state).

  • We are recruiting for an experienced and skilled individual with expertise in the private health sector and provision of malaria products and services to work on the USAID-funded U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative for States (PMI-S), based in Nigeria.
  • The project supports the Government of Nigeria through its agencies at the federal, state, local government areas (LGA) and community levels to reduce under-five and maternal mortality by delivering quality services for management of malaria and its complications, and prevention of malaria during pregnancy and in under-five children.
  • The PMI-S project is led by Management Sciences for Health (MSH), and Banyan Global, as a subcontractor, is responsible for PMI-S private sector activities.
  • Banyan Global is seeking a full-time consultant to serve as Private Health Sector Advisor to support activities in Nasarawa State from July 2024 until the project ends in March 2025. This position will be based in Lafia.

Duties

  • Work in close coordination with the Program Manager at Banyan Global Home Office in Washington, DC, as well as the project leadership based in Abuja and in Nasarawa State.
  • Work with the State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP) to improve the quality of malaria case management and reporting in selected private health facilities (up to 170 private health facilities in Nasarawa), including by:
    • Conducting mentoring and monitoring visits to private health facilities in Nasarawa State, in collaboration with state health authorities, to determine the extent to which facilities are conforming with National Guidelines and other good practices for malaria diagnosis, treatment, and case management, and to recommend corrections and improvements where needed.
    • Participating in monthly LGA-led data validation meetings with private health facilities in Nasarawa State, to help improve the timeliness, completeness, and quality of malaria data reporting by private health facilities.
  • Execute other tasks as needed and appropriate.
