School Accountant Overview:
The primary role and responsibility of the School Accountant is to oversee all financial activity and clerical work at the school. Assess and improve administrative processes and enhance efficiency. .
Requirements:
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Excellent English skills both verbal and written
Able to effectively interact with different types of people
Have a holistic approach when planning and managing projects/activities
Structured, tidy, well organized
Self driven, proactive and able to work independently
Proficient in Microsoft Office software and QuickBooks
CPA (Certified Public Accountants) section 2 or higher
Being familiar with Google Drive is an advantage

Works to meet the vision, mission and objectives for the school.
Ensures adherence to internal policies and procedures.
Makes budgets and keeps records for all financial activities for the school.
Works closely with the school administration to align financial management to educational goals.
Ensures that budget posts are not overrun, and notifies the management immediately when or if this occurs. Taking action early to prevent overspending is a high priority.
Signs contracts with all staff members together with the management.
Contributes to the school management with initiative and ideas.
Produces expense reports every month.
Sends annual accounting records to the auditor.
Oversees petty cash and floats given to staff members.
Keeps documents updated in Google Drive.
Registers all employees in the payroll system and handles payments to NSSF, NHIF and PAYE.
Ensures that all financial activity obeys national tax laws.
Registers all daily workers.
Shops and keeps learning materials, office stationery and other items needed for the school.
Organizes the making of and purchasing of uniforms for students.
Manages work hours for non teaching staff.
Keeps and organize all keys for buildings and property that is not a part of the school (dorm, kitchen, visitors area, house, teachers housing)
Attends regular meetings with management and provides insights for decision making.
Measures water meters regularly and keeps written records of this.
Oversees maintenance and renovation projects.
Coordinates with vendors and service providers for office supplies, equipment, repairs etc.
Coordinates with external auditors during financial audits.
Stay updated on financial trends e.g. apps and tools to help efficiency.
