Nendo is looking for a research professional passionate about the internet, social media, and mobile phones to join us. While we work in areas outside of technology, an obsession with the habits, insights, and nuances of the digital space will be an advantage. Nendo is known for its globally recognized research publications that make trends, predictions, and forecasts related to digital, and we expect some of this to feature in our ideal candidate.

As Nendo’s Research Executive, you will participate in writing proposals, designing data collection tools, managing nomads (field teams), data analysis, report writing, and making presentations. You will support team members in project management and execution of strategic research projects touching on different parts of the continent with primary and secondary research.

This role requires experience in both qualitative and quantitative research. You will be familiar with having conducted both types of research for various clients. A bonus skillset will be familiarity with social media listening and reporting on social media analytics and digital media statistics. As our ideal candidate, you will have opinions and evidence on Kenyans and East Africans online, whether on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, or other digital platforms and channels.

  • Participate in preparing proposals, prequalification’s, and delivering pitches in response to firms seeking to contract market and consumer research services.

  • Take part in planning research projects, data analysis, interpretation and reporting of the results, drawing conclusions and making recommendations where appropriate.

  • Design of data collection tools under the guidance of the Research Lead.

  • Plan and implement research projects, ensuring compliance with timelines and objectives.

  • Undertake literature reviews as necessary to guide the approach and research methodology.

  • Employ qualitative and quantitative research methods to collect, analyze and interpret data.

  • Tabulate and chart data to aid interpretation and reporting.

  • Make presentations of the findings to clients.

  • Contribute to generating new business through scanning for appropriate tendered opportunities and supporting the development of research proposals and quotations.

  • Support initiatives that drive the development of new technical capabilities and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, economics, mathematics (if coming from a quantitative background), media, communications, business, journalism (if coming from a qualitative background), or any related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in a similar position with hands-on experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

  • Experience serving different clients across different industries and sectors, from for-profit clients to non-profit clients.

  • Used research to solve business-to-consumer (B2C) challenges, mining for insights and rationales among individuals, or business-to-business (B2B) challenges, understanding institutions, stakeholders, decision-making, and outcomes.

  • Moderated focus group discussions with empathy for the participants, helping them feel safe, open up, and participate. You’ll have the understanding to know when to let a pause fall on the group and how to get the silent ones to participate. Diving deeper to understand the fears, motivations, and beliefs of the people in the room.

  • Scripted and ran surveys after designing well-written tools that provided evidence and perspective through the statistics and figures from the target audience. You’ve used tools such as SurveyToGo, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, Typeform, Tally, and other tools for your forms.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You understand good grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax. You have been commended for delivering error-free writing in your reports and deliverables.

  • Logical and insightful thinking that helps demonstrate a high attention to detail with your spreadsheets, documents, slide presentations, and general communication.

  • Bonus - have a familiarity with OSINT secondary research that involves desk research and reviewing Google Trends, analyzing social networks and Telegram groups and investigating for trends, patterns, and insights.

  • Excellent knowledge of statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, R or similar), databases and Microsoft Office. Nendo uses Google Workspace to Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Drive as primary tools for collaborative documents.

  • Experience in report preparation: the ability to prepare reports and present findings and insights.

  • A team player mindset who works well with others to achieve the client’s end-goals. You have been commended across your career for your desire for learning and self-development. You are eager to grow through feedback from clients and colleagues alike.

  • Bonus: experience visualizing data with FlourishStudio or Datawrapper.

  • Bonus: experience with HTML/CSS and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is a plus.
