THE ORGANIZATION

Browns Plantations Kenya Limited (formerly James Finlay Kenya Limited) is part of the Browns Group. Browns is a highly successful diversified conglomerate and part of the LOLC Holdings PLC group of companies which is one of the largest and most profitable listed corporations in Sri Lanka. It is headquartered in Sri Lanka and has a proud heritage of operating plantation businesses, in Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone, and Kenya.


Browns Plantations Kenya Limited is based in Kericho and Bomet counties, it has over 5000 Hectares of Tea and over 2000 Hectares of forestry. There are four tea factories, nine tea estates, a sawmill, a forestry operation, and a Botanicals business. Power generation & distribution is via a 33kV internal grid with a maximum demand of 8 MW. There are 5 Micro hydropower stations, 5 MW of diesel generation, 2 MW of solar PV. Over 7000 houses are also synchronized to the Grid. It has an Engineering Department that consists of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Fleet, and Power Generation sections and over 350 employees.

We invite applications for the post of Electrical Manager based full-time on the estates in Kericho.


THE JOB

Reporting to the Engineering Manager the job holder will be responsible for electrical engineering installation and maintenance on the company facilities, overseeing optimal operation of hydro, solar, and diesel power stations, and implementing numerous electrical projects within the company. This is a challenging senior role as the electrical infrastructure is significant and complex.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

  • Registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya.

  • Hold a Class A Electrician’s license.

  • Work experience of 10 years in electrical, power, and instrumentation installation, maintenance, and repairs. 3 years as head of the department.

  • Good problem-solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Installation and maintenance of electrical machinery and equipment.

  • Maintenance and operation of hydro, solar, and diesel power stations.

  • Installation and maintenance of internal medium (33 kV) and low voltage power grid.

  • Management and development of staff in the Electrical Section.

  • Metering and billing of power consumed within the company.

  • Installation and maintenance of process instrumentation and control equipment.

  • Conducting electrical inspections and audits on company facilities/installations.

  • Liaising with KPLC, EPRA, and other government bodies on electrical matters.

  • Implementing the company’s health, safety, and environmental standards within the area of responsibility.

  • Optimization of the overall efficiency of Electrical installations and generating equipment to ensure the lowest cost of electricity to production units and users.
