About the Role

The Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing our project in Malindi, Kenya from inception to completion. This role requires a deep understanding of construction processes, project management, contracts, and compliance with safety regulations. The project Engineer will collaborate with multiple stakeholders including contractors, engineers, architects, and clients to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The Project Engineer will work with Sanivation on contract until March 2025.

Site Management:

  • Lead site construction supervision team.

  • Lead site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to safety
    standards.

  • Coordinate construction activities, ensuring work meets contractual requirements, design
    and specifications.

  • Resolve any issues or conflicts that may arise during construction.

Compliance and Regulations:

  • Ensure all construction activities comply with contractual clauses, local building codes, safety regulations, law, and environmental standards.

  • Obtain necessary permits and approvals for construction activities.

Project Planning:

  • Lead relationships with project stakeholders to create project management systems
    and define project scope whilst achieving the goals, and deliverables set out by the client.

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and
    budget estimates.

Budget and Cost Control:

  • Monitor
    project expenditures and maintain accurate financial records.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize project budgets.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement quality control measure systems to ensure workmanship meets industry standards and client expectations.

  • Conduct inspections and quality checks at various project milestones.

Reporting and Documentation:

  •  Prepare regular progress reports and updates for project stakeholders.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of project milestones, decisions, and communications.

Client Relations:

  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients, addressing their concerns and
    providing project updates.

  • Manage client expectations and ensure satisfaction with project outcomes.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or
    related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • EBK certified engineer
  • 10+ years of Proven experience in construction project management, with a strong understanding of construction techniques, FIDIC red book contracts, public procurement, government projects, and all other construction processes.
  • Extensive experience with FIDIC red book and government contracts in Kenya is
    essential.
  • Extensive experience working as a resident engineer in Kenya is essential.
  • Experience working with large development funds, such as the World Bank, is
    preferred.
  • Experience working in the water, wastewater, and sanitation industry in Kenya is
    preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive experience using modernized project management software and tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety regulations and building codes.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Working Relationship:

  • Leads relationships with contractors, engineers, architects, and clients.
  • Leads internal relationships with technical, finance, procurement, and partnerships teams.

Location:

The Project Engineer will be based full-time in Malindi, Kenya for the tenure of the project.
